There is no cure for asthma, and unfortunately, people with asthma will suffer lifelong. While medicine can help during an attack, the big preventive measure for asthma is managing triggers.
Triggers can be as big as excercise, or as small as animal dander. Many people, like you and I are suspectible to allergens that could potentially cause, or exacerabate allergy symptoms.
